Take Home Clay Kits

Our take home kits are designed for those who want to be creative and experiment with making pottery but may find stepping away from their day-to-day for an in-person studio session a bit tricky.

No prior knowledge or experience of working with clay is required – each kit includes a booklet for getting started & important things to consider while making.

How it works

Place your order / Pick up your tool kit.

Each month we release a set amount of clay kits. We have two basic kits available: individual kits and kits for two. Each kit includes clay and our tool kits (which must be returned when you drop off your pieces for firing.) If you do not want a tool kit, be sure to select that option when placing your order.

1

Get started on making your clay cuties.

Once you’ve picked up your tool kits you have about 2-3 weeks to work on your pieces before they must be returned to the studio for firing. Each kit includes a brief introduction of working with clay, along with information to consider while making your pieces (handbuilding techniques, wrapping and returning to your work, finishing touches, etc.)

2

Drop off your pieces and tool kits.

Once you’ve finished creating your pieces, you’ll drop them off at our studio during the designated drop off times. Once dropped off your pieces will have a few additional days to ensure they are 100% dry. They will then be loaded into the kiln for two separate firings: bisque and glaze.

3

Pick up your finished pieces

After 2.5 - 3 weeks you will be notified that your pieces are ready for pick up. All pieces must be picked up at our studio in Erbendorf. You will be able to schedule your pick up when you are notified that your pieces are ready.

FAQs

What is included in the Clay Kits?

1

Each Kit comes with 1kg of clay, a rental tool set and a booklet with information on how to get started making. Each of the kits include both Bisque and Glaze firings, as well as a selection of our studio glazes.

What do Tool Set Rentals mean?

2

Rentals are included with all the clay kits. All tools included in the set must be returned when you drop of your finished pieces. If selecting the option to have a tool kit a “deposit” is made on those tools. When dropping off your pieces please make sure that all the tools that were provided are included, if any tools are missing the deposit will not be returned. Please refer to the booklet included in the kit to make sure you have all the tools.

There is an option to purchase the tool set if you’d like, that way you do not have to worry about returning it – this is a great option for those who want to work with clay more consistently and not just create with a one time kit. Once you have a tool kit, you can then purchase clay as needed. All firing and glazing is included in the clay purchase.

I’ve never taken a pottery class before, how do i know what each tool is used for?

3

The booklet provided in each kit introduces you to each of the tools and their typical use – but often times tools can be used in a variety of ways and not for their designated purpose. You can even use a variety of everyday items you may have at home, as well.

The booklet also covers basic handbuilding techniques and important terms related to pottery that are helpful to know. Inside each of your pottery kits, there is also a QR code you can scan that will bring you to webpage with additional resources and videos.

How will you receive your order?

4

Once your order is placed it must be picked up at our studio in Erbendorf on the designated kit pick up days provided in your order confirmation. Unfortunately, we cannot ship or deliver your kits – local pick up only.

How do you return your clay kit and what happens next?

5

Your clay kits must be dropped off at our studio on the designated drop off days. We have a set firing schedule to adhere to to ensure that your pieces are returned in a timely manner. The booklet provided in the kit covers how to wrap and travel with your work to ensure it does not crack or break.

Once your pieces are dropped off we will fill out a glaze form with the glaze options you’ve chosen for your pieces. You’re pieces will then dry a few extra days to ensure they are 100% dry. Then they will be loaded into the bisque and glaze kilns. Once your work is ready for pick up you will receive an email to schedule pick up.r studio on the day you scheduled.
